Conserving The Health Of Our Local Forest Community

Tinmouth Mountain Forest

In 2010, Jack and Linda Viertel donated 84 acres of beautiful, lime-rich forestland in southwest Tinmouth to Vermont Family Forests. The parcel faces south and west and its upper elevation is at 2450 feet. The parcel is entirely forested and is located two miles deep in the woods.

Management access is challenging, but the remoteness of the parcel makes it a very quiet and peaceful place. Vermont Family Forests has developed a forest management plan for the parcel and is in the process of enrolling it in the Vermont Use Value Assessment Program. Vermont Family Forests will work with the Tinmouth Land Trust to conserve the parcel. At present, we hope to create a community forest with 12 shareholders, with maple syrup, solitude, and soul restoration being the primary products.
